Boss’ exit doesn’t slow down Burnie

-

Whitburn shrugged off the departure of manager Jamie Sandilands to West of Scotland side Rossvale the previous day with a 5-3 home win over Livingston United.

Goals from Andy Thomson, Martin Russell, Louis Maguire and Darren Liddell had the hosts in control early in the second half.

United’s Jason Gregory missed a penalty but that didn’t stop a fightback from the hosts with Kyle Mowatt and Andy Gray cutting the deficit in half before Aiden Martin netted Whitburn’s fifth to put the game to bed although Bryden Nolan did get a consolation third for Livi late on.

Ryan Robertson was the four goal hero as Stoneyburn caused a shock by defeating Dalkeith Thistle 4-1 at home in a King Cup second round clash.

Armadale Thistle joined the Fulshie in the third round in emphatic fashion with Colin Strickland netting three times as the Dale defeated Edinburgh College 8-1 at Volunteer Park.

Linlithgow Rose were the only West Lothian side to advance into the fourth round of the South Challenge Cup but both Blackburn United and Harthill Royal pushed West of Scotland giants all the way.

Goals from Dan Baur, Mark Stowe and Alan Docherty saw the Rose defeat St Cuthbert Wanderers 3-2 at Prestonfield.

It was agony but pride for both Blackburn and Harthill as they lost 2-1 in away clashes.

United were edged out in extratime by Hurlford United after Richie Hutton’s late equaliser while it was a 90th minute winner for Pollok to break Harthill’s resolve by the same scoreline after Liam Barclay had shown great composure to level the game in the 71st minute.

Elsewhere, Broxburn Athletic lost 4-1 on penalties away to Blantyre Victoria after a 3-3 thriller. Ross Allum netted all three for the Brox before their shootout exit.

West Calder United were no match for Auchinleck Talbot, going down 7-1 after they had levelled the game in the first half through an own goal.
