Housing project to cater for over 55s

- MARJORIE KERR

A new housing development in West Lothian is set to support people aged 55 and over to live independent and full lives.

Wheatley Group, Scotland’s leading housing, care and property-management organisation, is rolling out its successful Livingwell service in West Lothian for the first time,

The modernised housing development utilises space for tenants effectively, while catering to their individual capabilities and ensuring they have access to technology that is easy to use and can assist them in their day-to-day lives.

West Lothian Housing Partnership (WLHP), part of Wheatley Group, will shortly complete work on 45 new homes in Almondvale, Livingston, which will offer the Livingwell service, complete with an OKEachDay check-in system and staff-led social activities.

WLHP is accepting applications for the new flats, from eligible individuals or couples who believe they would benefit from the service.

Livingwell engagement activities include line dancing, coffee mornings, quizzes, sports and exercise classes.

Wheatley’s community engagement coordinators also link in with groups and organisations locally to offer activities and volunteering opportunities exclusive to the area.

Livingwell lead, Melissa Campbell, said: “Our Livingwell service has been very successful and popular with tenants in Wheatley Group communities across

Scotland.

“We’re delighted to be rolling this out to West Lothian for the first time and for even more tenants to benefit from our services. It will provide them with the peace of mind and security they deserve.

“It’s also never been more important to support customers to ensure social inclusion and that they are happy in their homes.

“If you are aged 55 and over, or know someone who is, who would benefit from the Livingwell service in Almondvale then get in touch as soon as possible.”

People who are interested in applying can do so on Wheatley Group’s housing

website www.myhousing.org.uk or by calling 0800 561 0055.

Livingwell services are run by Wheatley Care, also part of Wheatley Group. The Livingwell service operates in 32 social housing developments across the west of Scotland, with more than 1000 people benefiting since it was launched in 2018.

Livingwell uses the latest technology, including OKEachDay, to help older people live in their own home for longer.

The OKEachDay service makes sure daily contact is maintained with customers 365 days a year with tenants ‘checking in’ each day by pressing a button on their tablet.

Customers can also receive important messages via their touchscreen from their housing team which helps keep them up to date with news about their property, important tenant information and much more.

Tenant Agnes Pennie uses the Livingwell service.

She said: “Livingwell provides me with peace of mind that someone is there if I need them. As an older person, using technology can be daunting, but the touchscreen is such a simple and straightforward system. It gives me a sense of security without inhibiting my independence.”
