Plans unveiled for wind farm
Plans have been submitted to build a new wind farm in West Lothian.
If approved, the proposals from Wind Estate (UK) would see six turbines erected in the Gladsmuir Hills, near Fauldhouse. The proposed Gladsmuir Wind Farm would have up to six turbines with a tip height of 180m.
The site currently comprises a coniferous forest and was previously used as an opencast mine with disused mineshafts and spoil tips located across it.
The surrounding area holds further disused coal mines, as well as quarries, bings from mineral extractions and operational wind farms. The Levenseat Quarry crosses the eastern boundary of the site.
Several existing turbines are located within the western region of the landholding, which form part of the Black Law 2 Wind Farm and the existing Tormywheel Wind Farm is located 1km to the east. The application is being considered by West Lothian Council and a decision will be made in the coming weeks.
