MID CALDER WEIR WORKS UPDATE

Slippage in the contractor’s programme of work, resulting in part from two severe weather events, has meant that the duration of the closure of the riverside path between East Calder Wastewater Treatment Works and Pumpherston Road, Mid Calder, is now estimated to extend until 17th March 2022.

This was originally expected to have been completed by December 2021.

Existing diversions will therefore continue, and affect the following: access between Almondell and Mid Calder; National Cycle Route (NCR) 75; The Shale Trail.

West Lothian Council and its project partners, SEPA and Forth Rivers Trust, apologise for the continued inconvenience, which is necessary in the interests of safety to facilitate construction of the fish pass over Mid Calder Weir.

This project will allow migrating fish species to access quality habitat in the upper reaches of the river system, enhancing whole river biodiversity.

For further information on this project please contact the WLC Flood Defence Team via 01506 280000. For information on routes through Almondell, please contact Almondell & Calderwood Country Park Visitor Centre on 01506 882254.
