WHITBURN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMEN­T TRUST

Are delighted to be awarded £2,500 from Arnold Clark Community Fund towards our Community Fridge and Larder.

The Community Fridge and Larder provides support to individual­s and families experienci­ng food insecurity and food poverty.

Since late July 2020 to mid December 2021, we have registered 539 users, supporting 1,279 individual­s, recorded over 9,400 visits, and distribute­d over 37 tonnes of food and essentials.

A huge thank you to the Arnold Clark Community Fund for their support.

Thank you once again to Co-op Newhouse for a large donation of crisps. Also thank you to Co-op Whitburn for their continued support ensuring we can receive large donations like this. Fancy picking up a packet?

COMMUNITY FRIDGE

Anyone can register! Pop in weekdays between 10-12noon or Thursdays between 5-7pm. Together we can do our bit to reduce food going to landfill Whitburn Community Fridge has a number of vegetable soup packs available this week.

Everything you need to make a lovely bowl of soup to warm up on a day like today.

Everyone welcome, Open weekdays 10-12noon.

WHITBURN COMMUNITY GARDEN

Volunteers have started painting their shipping container.

They have a few design ideas and will be looking to get your opinion, so look out for a poll in the coming days on the facebook page.

FRIENDS OF POLKEMMET SESSIONS

We’re pleased to announce that the 2022 Friends of Polkemmet Sessions are starting.

The second Friends of Polkemmet session of 2022 will be held on Sunday 27th February from 10am-12pm, where we will be carrying out some vegetation removal around the pond area. The meeting point is outside the Ranger Office.

Spark is open again and warmly welcoming all our members back to our activities.

Seated Exercise began at Spark last week. It’s a great wee workout and an effective way to help you stay physically active, and all you need is a chair. Lowimpact chair exercises help increase movement while keeping pressure off your joints. It is held every Tuesday from

1.30-2.30pm. All are welcome £2.20pp Carers and Xcite members go free.

The Men’s Group meets on Fridays from 10.30-12.30pm Join us for pool, table tennis, darts, dominoes, cards, talks, quiz, games and banter. £2.50 includes a free cuppa and biscuit (or a slice of banoffee pie!) . Contact 01506 442093 for further details.

Xcite Ageing Well Singalong is held from 10.30--12pm on Wednesdays. Carers and Xcite Members free.

CRAIGSFARM ACTIVE LISTENING AND ONE-STOP INFORMATIO­N POINT

Sometimes we just need someone to listen, we have had a hard 2 years. Some have lost loved ones, and others have faced difficult times with their work, rising fuel bills and increasing cost of living.

At Craigsfarm Active Listening we believe everyone in the midst of hard times should have someone they can talk to – in confidence, without judgement and the freedom to determine their next step.

We ask questions to understand. We listen without interrupti­ng, comparing, or judging. If you need people to talk to who actually listen, we have you covered. Our active listening community services work to provide a FREE and a neutral, accepting space for you. MINDFULNES­S, RELAXATION AND STRESS-MANAGEMENT

The second of our well-being courses is our mindfulnes­s, relaxation and stress-management for women course being held in Craigs Farm. Take time for yourself, with others who feel the same. Learn techniques for mindfulnes­s, relaxation and stress management in a welcoming

group environmen­t. This 6 week course will begin on Thursday February 24 and run until March 31. Sessions will take place on Thursdays from 6.30- 8:30pm.

Another well-being course taking place soon is the mindful writing course. Using mindful exercises, playful writing reflection­s and group feedback, you will learn the benefits of writing regularly.

Openness is encouraged but you can share as much or as little as you’re comfortabl­e with.

This course will begin on Tuesday March 15 and run until April 5. Classes will take place on Tuesdays from 10:3012:30pm at Craigsfarm.

DOG FRIENDLY PLACE

Craigsfarm is dog-friendly building .If you’ve been around the building you’ve probably seen our hardworkin­g fourlegged employees Fixe, Sofie or Neva around .It’s not just staff dogs that are welcome, if you have a waggy-tailed friend you’d like to bring around to Craigsfarm while you stop in to our café for a cuppa or something to eat, you’re more than welcome!

There’s multiple patches of grass around in case they need a toilet break or a run around, doggy bags and water bowls will be available in the café too. Please keep your dog(s) on their leash and with you at all times, this is for their own safety as well as the safety of other dogs and people.

If your dog requires a muzzle, please make sure your dog is wearing it upon arrival to our premises.

Any “accidents” are strictly the owner’s responsibi­lity and must be cleaned up.

MINDFULNES­S CLASSES FOR KIDS

Mindfulnes­s Classes for Kids for ages 8-13 years of age are held in Craigs Farm. They are great for helping kids develop skills to aid in their own mental and emotional well-being.

They are held on Tuesdays at 4.30pm.

MEDITATION
