Puzzled what to do in February? Pick up a jigsaw puzzle reduced from £3 to £2. We have a variety of them in nearly new condition. Our Community Shop in East Calder is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10-2pm.

We have a wide variety of bric a brac (glasses, crockery, ornaments, pictures) and are well stocked with clothes, toys and books. We also have the ree boxes outside which are fun to rummage.

COMMUNITY LISTENING PROJECT

COVID has isolated so many of us. There is a new and exciting project called the KNEC Community Listening Project which will aim to help us get out of isolation, mix with people

in a safe environmen­t and listen to each other as we adjust to life again with less restrictio­ns.

Our first project venture is to run the KoNECt Cafe. This will start on Monday February 21 from 1-3pm in East Calder Church Hall. Please pop along for a cuppa and some company. It will run weekly from then. All Welcome.

YOGA

SINGERGIE COMMUNITY CHOIR

Singergie is a totally free, singing for fun choir, held on Friday mornings and / or Monday evenings. No auditions, no egos, no cliques, just fun with great songs and good company.

We look forward to welcoming back our old members, and meeting new members.

Remember to dress warmly as we’ll be keeping the room well ventilated in line with Covid measures.

The choir is held every Friday from 10– 12noon at East Bowling Club, Langton Road East

Calder and Monday from 7- 9pm at The Village, Oakbank Road, East Calder. You need not attend both sessions and we look forward to welcoming you.

WHITBURN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMEN­T TRUST

Are delighted to be awarded £2,500 from Arnold Clark Community Fund towards our Community Fridge and Larder.

The Community Fridge and Larder provides support to individual­s and families experienci­ng food insecurity and food poverty.

Since late July 2020 to mid December 2021, we have registered 539 users, supporting 1,279 individual­s, recorded over 9,400 visits, and distribute­d over 37 tonnes of food and essentials.

A huge thank you to the Arnold Clark Community Fund for their support.

Thank you once again to Co-op Newhouse for a large donation of crisps. Also thank you to Co-op Whitburn for their continued support ensuring we can receive large donations like this. Fancy picking up a packet?

Anyone can register! Pop in weekdays between 10-12noon or Thursdays between 5-7pm. Together we can do our bit to reduce food going to landfill Whitburn Community Fridge has a number of vegetable soup packs available this week.

WHITBURN COMMUNITY GARDEN

Volunteers have started painting their shipping container.

They have a few design ideas and will be looking to get your opinion, so look out for a poll in the coming days on the facebook page.

FRIENDS OF POLKEMMET SESSIONS

We’re pleased to announce that the 2022 Friends of Polkemmet Sessions are starting.

The second Friends of Polkemmet session of 2022 will be held on Sunday 27th February from 10am-12pm, where we will be carrying out some vegetation removal around the pond area. The meeting point is outside the Ranger Office.

All ages are welcome (but under 16s must be accompanie­d by an adult). All tools and equipment needed will be provided and safe COVID practices followed.

Introducti­on to Filmmaking" is a wonderful new opportunit­y to develop new skills and share the end product with others.

A course began last week at Spark and is running every Thursday morning from 10.30-12 noon for 12 weeks. Its costs £2.50 a week and will cover all aspects on making a basic film from start to finish.

MINDFULNES­S, RELAXATION AND STRESS-MANAGEMENT

The second of our well-being courses is our mindfulnes­s, relaxation and stressmana­gement for women course being held in Craigs Farm.

Take time for yourself, with others who feel the same. Learn techniques for mindfulnes­s, relaxation and stress management in a welcoming group environmen­t.

This 6 week course will begin on Thursday February 24 and run until March 31. Sessions will take place on Thursdays from 6.30- 8:30pm.

Another well-being course taking place soon is the mindful writing course. Using mindful exercises, playful writing reflection­s and group feedback, you will learn the benefits of writing regularly.

SPARK

The following events are held at Spark at Almondbank Centre.

Seated Exercise is a great wee workout and an effective way to help you stay physically active, and all you need is a chair. Low-impact chair exercises help increase movement while keeping pressure off your joints.

It is held every Tuesday from 1.302.30pm. All are welcome £2.20pp Carers and Xcite members go free.

The Men’s Group meets on Fridays from 10.30am-12.30pm Join us for pool, table tennis, darts, dominoes, cards, talks, quiz, games and banter. £2.50 includes a free cuppa and biscuit (or a slice of banoffee pie!) . Contact 01506 442093 for further details.

Xcite Ageing Well Singalong is held from 10.30--12pm on Wednesdays. Carers and Xcite Members free.

The World day of prayer event for Livingston will be held in Livingston United Parish

Church, Fells Rigg, Carmondean, on Friday March 4 at 7 p.m. People from around the world

MILITARY MUSEUM SCOTLAND, LINBURN

The museums’ winter opening hours are Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 10-3pm this will continue until March.

Informatio­n and booking forms are available for any traders who want to book a stall for Military Museum Scotland’s1st ever Militaria fair.

Everyone that has already contacted us will be emailed all the relevant informatio­n.

We are looking at possibly a maximum of 10-12 covered outdoor stalls. There may be a possibilit­y of an additional 20-25 indoor stalls.

Baldrick will also be setting up his stall. If you want to book a stall. Drop us an email to milmussco@yahoo.com. There may also be a few other vehicles on display.

In the not too distant past, we set up Military Museum Scotland veterans metal detecting group. But due to covid, nothing much happened with it.

On Thursday February 24, the metal detecting group will hold its next get together. As well as the metal detecting , if anyone is interested in magnet fishing, we will incorporat­e that to the group. Anyone interested i joining or want to know more about it, we will meet at 09.30 at Military Museum Scotland.
