Liberta, a family-run Italian restaurant in Bathgate, is celebrating its 10th anniversary in the town this month.

The restaurant first opened in the town’s centre on January 29, 2012, and has been a favourite of the community ever since.

At the end of last year, the restaurant was also awarded the title of‘Best family business’at the Scottish Italian awards in 2021 - bringing culinary acclaim to Bathgate.

Fikret Elshani, general manager of Liberta, spoke about winning the award, he said:

“My family and I are so chuffed to mark 10 years in business, from my brothers in the kitchen and the back-end, to my mum overseeing everything.

“We fought for it though, it’s been a real challenge running a family business - and there’s been some tough times, especially with Covid’s effect on the industry.

“We couldn’t have made it this far without the community though, their support has been phenomenal, and has encouraged us to keep going every step of the way.

“We’ve always wanted to show that you don’t need the big city to get the best food, and the people of Bathgate allowed us to do that - we’re even hoping to expand in the near future!”
