Schools and community groups will pull on their wellies to start planting up Armadale’s tribute to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Local people will plant the first of almost 2000 trees which will transform abandoned pitches into a community woodland/ wetland area.

A meeting of Armadale and Blackridge local area committee heard that tree planting would begin on March 7.

In a report to committee, countryside manager Eirwen Hopwood said the Green Action Trust had started ground works on the site of the new woodland at the abandoned football pitches at Nelson Park.

Her report added: “Community planting is likely to take place from March 7. Schools and community groups will be contacted shortly regarding participation in planting events. Roughly 1700 trees are to be planted, along with the creation of a wetland area, pathway and site signage.”
