A West Lothian group was among good causes to receive a share of £18,000 funding from Scotmid Co-operative to help support them this winter.

Funding was provided to almost 30 charities with a focus on helping those dealing with food poverty, as well as organisations that tackle homelessness. The aim of the support, which comes as part of Scotmid’s Winter Giving campaign, was to assist causes, and those who use them, over the difficult winter months – a period which has traditionally raised additional challenges in comparison to the rest of the year.

Fauldhouse and Breich Development

Trust, which aims to tackle economic, environmental, cultural and social needs in their community, was one of those who benefited after receiving a £500 donation from Scotmid.

Sharon Frederiksen, anti-poverty and community capacity building development worker at Fauldhouse and Breich Development Trust, said:“We’re extremely grateful for the funding from Scotmid, which will make a huge difference to families struggling with food insecurity in Fauldhouse.

“The funding will go towards providing goods at our weekly Community Larder, as well as giving families necessary goods that they can’t provide for themselves and their children, such as sanitary products and nappies.”

Kirsty Connell, communities manager at Scotmid, said:“Winter can be tough for many people, especially for those who rely on foodbanks or who may be struggling with homelessness.

“It is important for us to support the causes that directly help people in these difficult circumstances across our local communities.

“We hope the funding has helped to make winter a little easier for people across Scotland.”
