Max-imum effort with farewell film

The late Max von Sydow gives a typically outstanding turn in his final film role.

The Swedish-French icon stars as a Greek writer who, as a young boy, escaped a horrendous Nazi atrocity in occupied Greece in 1943.

The story switches between the present day and the horrendous events in Kalavryta.

A haunted von Sydow convincingly portrays a man consumed by grief out to honour his fallen countrymen.

As you can imagine, given the subject matter, Echoes of the Past is a tough watch, and a bit slow at times, but the powerful acting from all involved grips you to your seat.
