Hannah‘honoured’to reach final
A West Lothian College student made the finals of prestigious apprentice of the year awards.
Hannah Cockburn (21), a fourth-year apprentice at West Lothian Council, made history by being the first woman to be shortlisted in the third and fourth year finalists category.
She attended the ceremony last month at the Marriot Hotel in Glasgow.
Hannah, who lives in Linlithgow, is in the final year of a four-year Joinery Modern Apprenticeship with West Lothian Council and takes part in learning at the college.
She said:“I was really honoured to reach the finals of the APSE Scotland Building and Housing Apprentice Awards.
“I love what I do in my job and have loved my time studying at West Lothian College.
“I would like to give a big shout out to my lecturer Graeme Binnie for his support and encouragement over my four years.
“For anyone thinking of applying for a Modern Apprenticeship, I’d say go for it! It is a great way to learn while you earn!”
Hannah is now looking forward to completing her apprenticeship and graduating this summer.
Graeme Binnie said:“Hannah was a real pleasure to teach and other students in the class always looked to her for support and guidance.
“During her apprenticeship, Hannah worked hard to learn her trade and she exceeded in all aspects of college work, showing a level of skills and knowledge that was mature in advance of her years.
“Hannah is held in very high regard by staff at West Lothian College.”
