Coup for podcasters as Oscar winner takes the spotlight

- DEBBIE HALL

A group of local podcasters brought some Hollywood glamour to West Lothian when they interviewed Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton.

The team behind the popular Jibber Jabber podcast were delighted when the Hollywood icon agreed to answer questions from their listeners about his band’s new album.

The star of TV shows ‘Goliath’ and ‘Fargo’ and hit movies ‘Bad Santa’ and ‘Monster’s Ball’ joined Boxmasters band mate JD Andrew for an in depth chat about their new record ‘Help... I’m Alive’ and the importance of music in general.

The pals behind the Jibber Jabber podcast – Kevin Wells and Jordan McCaig – said they still can’t believe they got to speak the legend that is Billy Bob Thornton, saying both the star and band mate JD Andrew made for a “pleasure of an interview”.

The pair spoke about the inspirations behind their “60s brand of pop/rock music”, writing an album during lockdown and the process of how they make music as a band and their favourite songs from their new album.

They also talk about how important music is generally, especially after the death of a friend of Billy Bob’s, who took his own life.

The star said being in the studio making the album helped him get through that dark time.

The star also tells how his mum was a massive influence on him after giving his first Kid Creole album and his love for the The Beatles – admitting he thought Ringo Starr’s name was actually Ludwig due to the logo on his drum kit.

Kevin and Jordan have already made a name for themselves when it comes to stars appearing on their podcast.

In 2020 they welcomed Gerard MacMahon, who wrote the cult classic, ‘Cry Little Sister’ for the ‘The Lost Boys’ soundtrack to Bathgate for a special show and screening of the movie.

And next up they will be speaking to Andrew Dominik, writer and director of ‘Chopper’, about notorious criminal Mark ‘Chopper’ Read, starring Eric Bana.

Kevin said the interview was released via a live show which gave them the chance to interact with everyone who had submitted questions and despite some technical issues with a webcam, the podcast was a massive success.

He said: “Being based in Bathgate and having our local audience, this podcast allowed our audience to ask Billy Bob questions that they’d never have thought possible before.

“We did get a good amount of questions from the locals via social media. This all came about through mutual friends. Our podcast has seen some real growth over the last year and our guests keep getting better and better. Very soon we will be hoping to bring some more Hollywood to Bathgate.”
