Cut-out detailing, oversized bags and dashes of trending emerald green shades – the new ranges have landed and shoppers at The Centre, Livingston are keen to revamp their wardrobes and indulge in the hottest must-have trends.

Spring is the perfect time for a wardrobe refresh and when the Street Style Squad visited The Centre earlier this month, bags were bursting at the seams with new season buys including pleated pastel accessories from Primark, chic beige trench coats from H&M, and flared trousers from New Look.

With over 150 shops to choose from, visitors are truly spoiled for choice – from statement accessories and luxurious beauty brands, to gorgeous homeware and toys to keep little ones entertained whatever the weather has in store.

This month, six stylish shoppers were selected to share their fabulous new purchases in return for a Gift Card worth £25, which can be used in over 80 stores and all restaurants in The Centre.

The first person on our style radar was make-up artist Amy Buchanan (43). Amy was visiting The Centre with her son for a day of browsing the shops and had just been to JD Sports.

Amy said: We’re weren’t looking for anything in particular but my son spotted a football top in JD Sports and I bought some nice leggings from Primark in pink marl. We’re off for a coffee next, then we’ll see if anything else catches our eye.”

The next person to catch our Style Squad’s eye was Erryn Mackie (38), a social care support worker from West Calder. Erryn was making the most of her morning off with a trip with her friend to get her eyebrows done at Now Brows and have a quick look in the shops.

Erryn said: “I’ve just been to New Look and picked up a really nice grey scarf, reduced to £4, which will be handy for cooler spring days.”

Our next lucky shopper was Paul Hood (35), an executive head chef from Howden. Paul was visiting The Centre with his family on his day off, picking up a few items for their little one as well as things for their new baby which is due later this year.

Paul said: We’ve really made a day of it – we started off with breakfast at Stack & Still then headed to M&S to get some summer clothes for our son.”

The Style Squad couldn’t resist checking out the purchases of Jeanette Davidson (78), from Livingston.

Jeanette was visiting The Centre with her daughter when she spotted a smart and versatile checked blazer from New Look for £27. Jeanette said: “We went into New Look to see if there was anything my daughter liked but I came away with something for me instead – it will be great for spring. We’re off to The Wintergarden Cafe next for a sandwich and a coffee, we really like it up there.”

Our next stylish shopper was Zoe Wright (26), a carer from Bridgend. Zoe was visiting The Centre with a friend, getting a few last minute purchases for an upcoming wedding.

Zoe said: “I’m going to a wedding and needed to get a smart shirt and tie for my partner as well as some sparkly earrings for myself – I got everything I needed at Primark, so it’s been a really successful trip.”

Our final lucky shopper was Samantha Mollins (25), a carer from Winchburgh. Samantha was going to the same wedding as her friend Zoe and needed a fascinator to co-ordinate with her outfit.

Samantha said: “I found the perfect pink fascinator at QUIZ Clothing – just what I was looking for. When I visit The Centre I usually pop into Primark and New Look while I’m here – but first we’re off to Greggs for something to eat!”

Ashley Bisland, deputy centre director at The Centre, said: “We love seeing visitors enjoying a great day out at The Centre, snapping up new season styles and a few treats along the way. Our six lucky shoppers have certainly found some fantastic additions to their wardrobes.”

Pupils and community groups have joined forces to take part in a tree planting project in Armadale to mark the ‘Queen’s Green Canopy’ initiative.

A total of 1770 trees were planted at Nelson Park by students from Armadale Academy, Armadale, Southdale, Eastertoun, and St Anthony’s Primary Schools.

They were joined by families from the Dale Hub and other members of the local community.

The Queen’s Green Canopy asks the British public from across the UK to plant a tree for her platinum jubilee.

The event was co-ordinated by the council’s Parks and Woodland team and the Queen’s representative to West Lothian, Lord-Lieutenant Moira Niven MBE and Executive councillor for the environment Tom Conn joined in to assist with the tree planting event earlier this month.

Lord-Lieutenant Niven MBE said: “It’s fantastic that Nelson Park will form part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, delivering environmental improvements to the park in Her Majesty’s Jubilee year.

“This is an excellent project to develop a high-quality green space in Armadale for the benefit of the community.

“I’m delighted this investment is being undertaken as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. I hope community groups will also wish to mark this important anniversary through tree and hedge planting projects.”
