‘We need to brush up’ to secure place in the top six admits Holt

- CALLUM CARSON

Livingston midfielder Jason Holt admits his side will have to play much better than they did against Hearts if they are to secure a third successive top six finish.

The Lions currently occupy sixth spot with two games remaining before the split – away to St Johnstone and home to Motherwell.

Holt said:“We know now we have two really big games which will define where we finish the season. We’ve got aspirations – we want to be in the top six there is no doubt about that.

“But we need to brush up on that first-half performance if we want to get there. The league is super tight and it’s so competitive this year.”

He added:“It’s all to play for. Europe would be a massive achievement for a

club like Livingston but first and foremost we want to cement our place in the top six.

“There are four, five, six teams fighting for that so we need to dig deep and give everything we’ve got in these last two games.

“It was a bit of chalk and cheese between the first and second half. That’s the biggest disappointment.

“We knew it’d be difficult but we were more than capable of taking something from the match.

“You go 1-0 down early doors and it’s difficult. We did better in the second and created a few chances but losing the second goal kills the game.”

The former Hearts and Rangers midfielder confessed he wasn’t surprised by the quality of Hearts’ second goal, having witnessed McKay’s potential first-hand when both were at the Ibrox club.

He commented:“I’ve seen Baz do that on numerous occasions. When you give players of that quality time in the box they can do that.

“It’s a fantastic finish but the most disappointing thing is probably the lead up to it. It’s a great finish but the cross into the box made it easy.”
