In West Lothian, 1,051 visits were provided by the Marie Curie nursing team, and 97 per cent of patients in Lothian were supported by Marie Curie to die in their place of choice.

There are 26 Marie Curie nurses in West Lothian and 309 Marie Curie volunteers with fundraising groups in Bathgate, Linlithgow and Livingston, as well as a shop in Bathgate.

Every March, Marie Curie holds their Great Daffodil Appeal, their biggest annual fundraiser.

In Scotland, they need to raise £250,000 per week to support frontline services.

Marie Curie are encouraging people to give their time or money (by donating, volunteering and fundraising), to wear a daffodil, and to share what their daffodil means to them.

Many people wear a Marie Curie daffodil either in memory of a loved one they’ve lost, or for someone they know who is living with a terminal illness.

Commenting on the appeal, Fiona said: “Marie Curie nurses and hospice staff have been on the frontline throughout the Pandemic, providing care and support to terminally ill people, their families and carers.

“The Great Daffodil Appeal is well known across Scotland, I have held regular coffee mornings pre-pandemic to raise money for this important charity and I want to personally recognise the dedicated and tireless work undertaken by the Marie Curie staff and volunteers.”
