Cool outlaws get back in the saddle

As remakes go, this rollicking ride saddles up on the right side of the quality scale.

The charismatic cast would be fun to share a drink in a saloon with and the script honours the beloved original, as well as the western genre in general.

Peter Sarsgaard’s antagonist is a force of nature carrying out diabolical deeds but The Batman star avoids going too over-the-top.

But the overuse of clichés becomes distracting and the 12 certificate means a lack of truly searing, and largely bloodless, danger.
