It takes a lot to overshadow double hat-tricks – but Michael Beagley did just that for Broxburn Athletic as he became the club’s youngest ever goal scorer in their 7-1 League Cup triumph at home to West Lothian rivals Fauldhouse United.

The win takes The Brox to the top of the group on goal difference ahead of Leith Athletic, with the two sides set to face each other this weekend.

Despite the final score line, United would enjoy a decent start and frustrated the hosts while looking dangerous in attack.

However, as soon as the home side opened the scoring in the 19 th minute there was only ever going to be one winner in this contest.

Gary Brass turned his marker before firing beyond Daniel Tobin, then duly doubled his tally moments later with a powerful header.

Ross Nimmo then went close, with Tobin pulling off a fine save.

But he was helpless when Joe Tait made no mistake after latching onto a great ball over the top to slot beyond the keeper.

He soon made it 4-0 as he slammed the ball high into the roof of the net despite protestations from the United

players who felt their had been a foul in them build-up.

The Hoose managed to reduce the arrears with a stunning long -range effort from Alistair Morgan that left Connor Wallace with no chance in the Brox goal, before Brass completed his hat-trick, and a pulsating first half, to ensure the

hosts went into the break 5-1 up. Although there wasn’t as much goalmouth action in the second half, Broxburn were still searching to further their advantage with Tait, in particular, a constant threat.

Fauldhouse were refusing to lie down, though, and Conor Scullion almost grabbed a goal back after beating the defence, but Wallace got down well to smother the attempt.

Tait finally grabbed his hattrick with five minutes to go after capitalising on a loose ball, before Beagley wrote his name into the club’s history when the 17-year-old produced a fine header in the final moments to cap off a memorable day.
