KIDS ARE REAL CREDIT TO THE COMMUNITY

Nine-year-old heroes find lost card — then knock on every door in street in a bid to find the rightful owner

A West Lothian support worker was delighted by the acts of two selfless young girls who went the extra mile to ensure a lost credit card was returned safely to its owner.

Bathgate-based support worker and nursing student, Safrina Safri Bowman (32) lost her credit card when heading to her job as a support worker last week.

It wasn’t until she reached the petrol station to fill up her car that she realised she didn’t have it.

The mum-of-one carried on with her day – thinking she must have left it at home – but around an hour later she received a notification on her phone from her doorbell camera.

She was puzzled to see two nineyear-olds, Hania Zawadzka and Amelia Maciak, who had found her credit card and knocked on all the doors on their street hoping to find the rightful owner.

Safrina spoke about being reunited with her card.

She said: “I had no idea I had lost my card. It was only when I got to the petrol station and to pay with it for contactless on my phone. I just thought I had forgotten to pick it up when I left for work.

“What I didn’t expect was a call from my doorbell while I was at work to see two wee girls on my doorstep.

“They had been chapping on every door in the estate trying to return my credit card.”

The girls pushed a note through the letterbox and went on with their quest to return the credit card.

It wasn’t until Safrina got home from work that she saw the note and went to retrieve the card.

The girls realised the importance of the lost card, and screened Safrina with a few security questions before returning her card quite happily.

Safrina said: “Once I got home I went to collect my card, but I was fielded with some questions from the girls before they gave me my card back. They’re quite switched on for nine-year-olds!”

The next day Safrina was invited for coffee by the girls’ proud mums Wioleta and Katarzyna, which she accepted, and turned up with a thank you gift for the young girls including Easter eggs and a cash reward.

Safrina explained: “I wanted to express my gratitude to the girls for returning my card, and also thought it could serve as an important lesson – to always be kind and honest, and you’ll be rewarded for that generosity.

“The girls seem really happy as well. They certainly weren’t expecting to get anything in return.

“I’ve kept in contact with their mums and have made new friends.”
