Robbie bags double at Cowden Racewall

- JIM TURNER

Livingston stock car ace Robbie Armit enjoyed a fine evening at the Cowdenbeath Racewall as he bagged himself a couple of victories.

Armit started the night’s racing with a fourth place in the opening heat but had recovered after losing a lot of ground when a car spun in front of him before improving on that result during the remainder of the event.

Heat two saw him pick up his first win but he had to overcome two race suspensions to do so before sealing victory in a hectic final.

Midway through the race, oil was dropped onto the track which caught out a few drivers in close order resulting in the back straight having cars pointing in every direction.

When the dust settled, half the field were sidelined but Armit was the leader and just when it looked as if he was easing away to win there was another stoppage with only a lap to run.

The field closed up onto his bumper for a last lap shoot out but he coped brilliantly with the pressure to hold off the various challengers to pick up his second win of the night.

There were strong showings for a number of other West Lothian drivers, too.

East Calder’s William Mitchell in his saloon was also in fine form. It was a first heat success for him as he chased the leader until the closing stages of the race before moving into the lead.

Once there he had to fend off challenges from behind before crossing the finish line in first place.

In his other races, Mitchell was fifth in heat two and sixth in the final.

Armadale’s Jordan Cassie started off with a fifth place in the opening heat and then picked up a third spot in heat two for a fine showing.

Elsewhere, Evie McLellan from Broxburn made her Micro F2 debut and while she failed to make it into the results she had a promising debut and she can be pleased with her showing.
