The second of the two workshops which KCDT is running for primary school age children will be on Friday April 29 from 2-3pm. Its to help the kids reflect on the lock-downs and to give them some coping strategies for the future.

KIRKNEWTON GALA

Kirknewton Gala is always looking for volunteers for various events. If you would like to be kept up to date with what we need help with, join our Facebook volunteer group Kirknewton Gala Volunteers Group”.

An example of what we are needing help with to have a plant stall at gala this year. Can you help by growing something for us to sell? We can drop off a bag of compost and lots of pots to you, grow whatever you feel comfortabl­e with. If you would like to help please comment on our Facebook page.

KIRKNEWTON SHOP AND PAVILION

We are still running the soup bags and Senior’s Drop in on Thursdays from 9.30 -12.30pm and the singing for the Seniors with Linda will be on Fridays from 10-12 noon. .

We know the pavilion toilet has been out of order for a while but we are working on this we promise. In the meantime the pavilion will be open on Wednesday between 3-5pm , (weather depending) so there will be toilet facilities available and teas/coffees/juice will be available for a small cash donation.

Finally if you are struggling or know anyone else who is please get in touch with a member of the team.

COMMUNITY LISTENING PROJECT

This is be held every Monday from 1-3pm in East Calder Church Hall. Please pop along for a cuppa and some company. This cafe will aim to help people move out of restrictio­ns and mix with others again.

Combating loneliness, isolation, low mood and give a place for people to come into contact with others who have time for a coffee and some company.

We hope this project in time can become an integrated part of the community providing a valuable service to those who can benefit from it. We are starting small but hope we can grow together.

MILITARY MUSEUM, LINBURN

Our first ever Militaria Fair last week was a fantastic event. Thanks to everyone who came along, from the stall holders and the visitors to our fantastic family of volunteers, without them we wouldn`t be able to hold these events.

We are already planning our next event. All the stall holders that were here have already booked their spot for the next one.

Thank you also to the people who handed in items for the Ukrainian orphans appeal. They will be handed out to the charity Friends of Chernobyl Children.

FORGET ME NOT CAFE

If you or a family member has had a diagnosis of dementia or memory issues then please join us at the café for an informal and friendly social group withr a cuppa and blether.

Please note that due to current circumstan­ces, booking is essential. The cafe opens on the last Thursday of every month from 10-12noon in East Calder Church Hall. Please contact Alzheimer Scotland on 01506 533108 to book.

SENIORS ACTIVITY HUB

Every Thursday morning the Green room will be transforme­d into a Seniors Activity Hub.

Come in, relax and enjoy a coffee and cake, pop in and say hi or stay and enjoy some relaxed activities anytime between 9.30- 12.30pm.

GALA QUIZZES

Quiz nights will be held on the first First Thursday of each month at 8pm in The Kirknewton Inn.

A maximum of 4 per team, £2 entry per person, £20 cash prize. All money raised goes towards Gala 2022.

GREEN ROOM

The Green Room is open, for tea/coffee, a chat, printing, some books to read, whatever the reason we are here from 9am-1pm Monday to Thursday. Social distancing still applies so please bear that in mind if your popping along. The larder is still open on Thursdays 9am- 1pm.

You can hire the Green Room for £10 per hour for meetings, parties, classes. As restrictio­ns ease more people will be allowed in.

Our Community Shop in East Calder is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10-2pm. We have bric a brac (glasses, crockery, ornaments, pictures) and are well stocked with clothes, toys, jigsaws and books. We also have the `free boxes’ outside or in on a wet day which are fun to rummage. We welcome any donations but do not have the room for dvds, cds and hard backed books, also no electrical items please. Do you fancy volunteeri­ng for a 2 hour shift on one of our days? You need not have had any experience and you will be trained. Ask when you are next in the shop.

SPORTS CENTRE PATH

The path at the side of the Sports Centre is closed to allow for widening, new contact the Gala Committee on the Gala Facebook page or midcalderg­ala@gmail. com or 0775459162­4 drainage, resurfacin­g and new led lighting to be installed . It is hoped it will be opened in mid April.

LADIES’ AND MEN’S MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP

This group for ladies offers peer support, confidence building, social activities and advice and support . No registrati­on so just pop into the Dave King partnershi­p Centre, East Calder EH53 0EP on Mondays from 6.30-8.30pm.

The Men’s Support Group is back again and meets on Wednesdays from 7-9pm also in the Partnershi­p Centre,

Please drop by, there is no registrati­on required, and it is completely free. Our volunteers are welcoming, friendly and everything is completely confidenti­al. Come along to discuss what’s on your mind, or just simply meet like minded people.

These services operate on a drop-in basis. You do not have to stay for the entire meeting if you do not wish.

COVID has isolated so many of us. There is a new and exciting project called the KNEC Community Listening Project which will aim to help us get out of isolation, mix with people in a safe environmen­t and listen to each other as we adjust to life again with less restrictio­ns.

Our first project venture is to run the KoNECt Cafe. This will start on Monday February 21 from 1-3pm in East Calder Church Hall. Please pop along for a cuppa and some company. It will run weekly from then. All Welcome.

Baby massage & bond with baby classes are held at Tots Spot play cafe, Main Street where you can learn skills to help relax and relieve your baby of any wind, colic or other tummy problems and also fun baby yoga.
