Whitburn stay top of the pile

-

Whitburn boosted their East of Scotland Conference X promotion hopes with a 2-0 away win over Edinburgh College to ensure they kept hold of top spot with five games left in the campaign.

Reece Duncan and Michael McGarahan bagged the goals as the Burnie boast a two point lead over Bo’ness Athletic but having played a game more – and having to face Athletic twice before the end of the season.

Bo’ness kept the pressure up with a 3-1 away win at Pumpherston while West Calder United were no match for Syngenta with the Cauther falling to a 6-0 home loss.

Armadale Thistle also kept up the pressure in the promotion race with three points at Park View as they beat Fauldhouse United 3-0.

A second half Scott Dalziel double got the Dale in front after a goalless first half with Chris Donnelly also getting his name on the scoresheet for the visitors.

That leaves the top four separated by just four points to set up a thrilling final few weeks of the season.

Meanwhile, a Euan Scott double led the way for Stoneyburn as they cruised to a 5-1 away victory over Bathgate Thistle at Creamery Park.

Livingston United caused a cup shock as they defeated St Andrews United 3-1 to book a King Cup fourth round tie againstWhitburn.

Michael Gould, Chris Kelly and Jeremiah Otonti bagged the United goals at Station Park.

In the Premier Division, first half goals from Alan Docherty and Sean Heaver kept Linlithgow Rose in touching distance of the top two as they grabbed a 2-0 win over Sauchie.
