Petrol station getting energy efficient facelift

-

A Bathgate petrol station is to be upgraded with a new“energy efficient” forecourt complete with a new shop and charging points for electric vehicles.

Planning permission has been granted to upgrade the BP filling station at Edinburgh Road in Bathgate.

The existing forecourt shop and roller carwash will be demolished and a new 170sqm one will be built, along with two self-serve powerwash bays, two electric vehicle charging bays and boundary fencing. Agent for the applicant, JMS Properties (Scotland) Ltd, said:“The current facilities at the BP fuel filling station in Edinburgh Road Bathgate has been operating successfully for a number of years by the applicant in tandem with their similar business in Glasgow.

“The business model has always required that the facilities are customer driven, with the user needs determining the way in which the business develops to answer the local requirements.

“The business has recognised that a change is needed at Bathgate to best serve their customer base which has seen some significant movement in customer habits over the past few years.

“It is proposed to demolish the existing forecourt shop which is too small to provide the facilities and shopping experience that customers now expect and replace this with a new purpose designed facility.

“It also proposed to demolish the existing roller car-wash at the rear of the site which has become obsolete due to the changing preferences and needs of customers washing their vehicles.

“The site development is intended to create new modern aligned facilities using modern materials and methods of construction.

“The proposals will create a more energy efficient forecourt building with enhanced associated facilities to provide improved customer services and sustainable business growth to meet developing user needs.”
