IT WAS GAMES, SET AND MATCH TO MEGHAN
IMY BRIGHTY-POTTS and JOHNSON on the Duchess of Sussex’s Invictus wardrobe
White hot Casual but classy EMMA
It was her first appearance in Europe for more than two years and the Duchess of Sussex certainly turned on the style at the Invictus Games.
Prince Harry’s passion project, this year’s Games were particularly poignant having been postponed for two years because of Covid, and with the Ukrainian team competing, against the backdrop of the war with Russia in their home country.
As Harry, 37, and Meghan,
40, met with and celebrated the athletes who serve, or have served, in the armed forces, despite facing wounds, sickness and trauma, all eyes were on her designer wardrobe.
So, who and what was she wearing?
Meghan made her first appearance at the event in a stunning oversized white Valentino suit. The doublebreasted jacket featured pointed peak lapels and an Eighties-style shoulder.
The former Suits star paired the suit with Valentino’s new One Stud bag, its gold chain matching her jewellery. And, just peeping out from underneath those superlong trousers, were her beautiful Aquazzura high heeled shoes, which fans will remember from her wedding day in 2018.
For her second appearance at the Games, a day which saw the royal couple take part in a children’s mini Land Rover challenge, Meghan served up a masterclass in casual chic.
She dressed up a pair of Moussy jeans with a black tweed boxy blazer, £2,400 from cool girls’ label Celine.
Chanel cap-toe ballet flats, a £1,950 Celine triomphe bag and a fabulous pair of £655 Linda Farrow aviator shades completed her laidback-yethigh-end look.
Mono magic
Meghan kept up the monochrome in a beautiful ruched cream £620 bodysuit by New York label Khaite and flared black trousers, for her third appearance at the Games – a night which saw the duchess go up on stage to thank the Netherlands for hosting the event and share a public kiss with her husband.
Royal jeans
Jeans were quite a theme of the weekend, dressed up by coffeecoloured £455 Manolo Blahnik shoes and an oversized ivory Brandon Maxwell blazer, brought in at the waist to create an A-line effect. The ensemble she wore to watch several events, including a volleyball game, was kept contemporary with medium-wash blue jeans.
Very Valentino
The Italian fashion house is clearly a favourite of Meghan’s. Attending a reception at the Games on Sunday, she looked the picture of elegance in a £3,600 embroidered crepe Valentino shift dress which she paired with a £960 Khaite bag, brown Manolos, flowing locks
and a bold red lip.
Dainty details
The weekend featured some stunning jewellery from Meghan, too. A delicate diamond necklace complemented her Valentino suit, while the eagle-eyed spotted Princess Diana’s gold Cartier watch, as well as the Cartier diamond earrings she wore on her wedding day. Sparkling stuff but then we would expect nothing less from this duchess.
