Super send-off for cult hero Maley

-

Livingston cult hero Gary Maley was handed a Premiership debut at the age of 39 – and then promptly retired from the game.

The former Broxburn Athletic keeper, pictured left, has been a firm fans’favourite since arriving at the club six years ago and was introduced in the closing stages of Sunday’s season finale against Dundee.

Remarkably, his appearance against the Dees means that despite not making his senior debut until the age of 33, Maley has played across all four SPFL divisions and the country’s three main cup competitions.

Livingston boss David Martindale joked that the veteran keeper’s introduction helped turn the game in their favour.

He said:“The game-changer was putting big Gary Maley on.

“We were 1-0 down and we win 2-1, so that’s got to be the headline. He was man of the match too. There can’t be many players who have played 18 minutes and won man of the match.”
