KIRKNEWTON GALA

Kirknewton Gala is always looking for volunteers for various events. If you would like to be kept up to date with what we need help with, join our Facebook volunteer group Kirknewton Gala Volunteers Group”.

An example of what we are needing help with to have a plant stall at gala this year. Can you help by growing something for us to sell? We can drop off a bag of compost and lots of pots to you, grow whatever you feel comfortabl­e with. If you would like to help please comment on our Facebook page.

QUEENS PLATINUM JUBILEE AFTERNOON TEA

Come along to a Celebratio­n Afternoon Tea in Kirknewton’s refurbishe­d Village Hall on Friday June 3. There will be 2 sessions 11-1pm and 2-4pm. Kids activities will be available.

CYRENIANS FARM PLANT SALE

Cyrenians Farm are having a plant sales day on Saturday May 28. .Come to the Lindburn walled Garden between 113pm for organicall­y grown flowers, herbs and some veggie plants.

We’ll also have some preserves. We take cash and and card payment. Brian will be on hand to chat about the history of the garden and our future plans and developmen­t of the space.

REUSE AND THRIVE

Our Community Shop in East Calder is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10-2pm.

Do you fancy volunteeri­ng for a 2 hour shift on one of our days? You need not have had any experience and you will be trained.

Ask when you are next in the shop.

KIRKNEWTON COMMUNITY FOOTBALL CLUB

This club will be based in Kirknewton and will be running for the Season 2022-23.

We will be hoping to be involved within the community and we will have a Sunday morning amateur team playing in LEAFA leagues, previously we were East Calder CFC. We are looking

forward to getting started and we will be having some open training sessions for any players looking for a team. Training will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7-8.30pm at Kirknewton Pitch,.

We have spoken to a few local businesses as well and are always on the lookout for sponsors. If you want to be involved in the club on a playing or a business capacity, please do let us know.

ASHTANGA YOGA

An Ashtanga yoga General level class is held on Mondays from 10-11am and 5.306.30pm in the village hall. Please bring your own mats and please eat your last meal at least an hour before you arrive. This class activates the digestive tract and is best done on an empty tummy.

Cost £8 per class, cash payments please for time being please. .

MILITARY MUSEUM, LINBURN

The Museum is open on the following days, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 10-4pm. Closed on Mondays and Thursdays but these are available for groups bookings Entry fees, Adult £7.50, Child £4 and Family £19.50 ( 2 adults and up to 3 kids).

The Military Museum Scotland has been awarded a grant from Museum Galleries Scotland to rebuild the WWI Trench. A completely new trench will be built, but the existing trench will be carefully dismantled and reused as much as possible. The existing trench took about 2.5 years to construct due to storm damage so it has been decided to build a replacemen­t. We have had lots of support and offers of help but there is also room for more skilled volunteers or companies to get involved. SPORTS PAVILION

Kirknewton Community Developmen­t Trust is trialling a scheme which will see the Pavilion open to the public to purchase hot and cold drinks. The toilets will also be available for use.

Opening times Mondays and Wednesdays 9-11am and 3-5pm. Please note we can only take cash at this time.

COMMUNITY LISTENING PROJECT

This is be held every Monday from 1-3pm in East Calder Church Hall. Please pop along for a cuppa and some company. This cafe will aim to help people move out of restrictio­ns and mix with others again.

Combating loneliness, isolation, low mood and give a place for people to come into contact with others who have time for a coffee and some company.

We hope this project in time can become an integrated part of the community providing a valuable service to those who can benefit from it. We are starting small but hope we can grow together.

LADIES’ MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT GROUP

This group offers peer support, confidence building, social activities, advice and support. No

registrati­on, we are a free service so just drop into the Dave King Partnershi­p Centre, East Calder every Monday from 6.30-8.30pm.

FORGET ME NOT CAFE

If you or a family member has had a diagnosis of dementia or memory issues then please join us at the café for an informal and friendly social group withr a cuppa and blether.

Please note that due to current circumstan­ces, booking is essential. The cafe opens on the last Thursday of every month from 10-12noon in East Calder Church Hall.

SENIORS ACTIVITY HUB

Every Thursday morning the Green room will be transforme­d into a Seniors Activity Hub.

Come in, relax and enjoy a coffee and cake, pop in and say hi or stay and enjoy some relaxed activities anytime between 9.30- 12.30pm.

GALA QUIZZES

Quiz nights will be held on the first First Thursday of each month at 8pm in The Kirknewton Inn.

A maximum of 4 per team, £2 entry per person, £20 cash prize. All money raised goes towards Gala 2022.

ZUMBA CLASSES

Add some Zumba into your life. They are held on Tuesday evenings from 6.307.30pm.

GREEN ROOM

The Green Room is open, for tea/coffee, a chat, printing, some books to read, whatever the reason we are here from 9am-1pm Monday to Thursday.

Social distancing still applies so please bear that in mind if your popping along.

The larder is still open on Thursdays 9am- 1pm.

You can hire the Green Room for £10 per hour for meetings, parties, classes. As restrictio­ns ease more people will be allowed in.
