Kelly signs on for two more years

-

Sean Kelly has signed a new two-year deal to stay at Livingston.

The 28-year-old was signed last summer from Falkirk and made 18 appearances in his first campaign for the Lions.

That wasn’t enough to trigger an automatic renewal clause in his contract, but boss David Martindale moved quickly to tie down Kelly, brother of ex-Livi keeper Liam, for two more years.

The ex-St Mirren and Ross County player joined Livi predominantly as a defender but found game time limited in that role.

However, he put in a string of fine displays as a central midfielder towards the latter part of the campaign and started five of his side’s final six games of the season.

Martindale admitted Kelly could play a number of positions but he sees him more in the middle of the park.

He said:“I’m delighted to get Sean signed up for a further two seasons.

“He took a while to get going but was hampered with niggling injuries which didn’t help. Since he got a consistent run in the team I’ve been delighted with him.

“Sean is a very intelligent footballer and understands the game and what’s required with very little instruction.

“He has a great left foot and his use of the ball is very good.

“He is low maintenance and very easy to work with and one player I am really looking forward to seeing progress further with a proper pre-season under his belt.”

He added:“I feel Sean can be a huge player for us next season and it helps that he can play in a few positions.

“But I have to admit, I do like his attributes in the central midfield area.”

Livi also confirmed a one-year extension for young midfielder Harrison Clark.

The teenager signed for Livi from Park View Academy of Sport in Chester-Le-Street last summer and spent last season with loan spells at Arbroath and Kelty Hearts, although his stint with the League Two title winners was disrupted by injury which limited him to just three appearances.
