Pittman returning to boss The Brox

Steve hoping to repeat success in the hotseat

- CALLUM CARSON

Former USA international Steve Pittman has returned to Broxburn Athletic for a second spell as manager.

The 55-year-old had a hugely successful stint at the club from 2009-2015 and has been named as Chris Townsley’s successor.

The former boss quit on Hogmanay straight after a 5-1 home derby loss to Linlithgow Rose, bringing to an end his near three-year reign at Albyn Park.

Pittman has spent most of his post-playing career in West Lothian football, having had a five-year stint as Pumpherston boss prior to his first spell with Broxburn.

Following his departure he had a short spell as assistant manager at Bo’ness United before spending much of the last few years involved with Livingston – firstly as reserve team boss before leaving that role during the covid pandemic – and latterly within the club’s academy.

Pittman has close ties to the Premiership outfit given that his former assistant at Broxburn is current Lions gaffer David Martindale, while his son Scott is the club’s all-time record appearance holder and had played under his dad at Albyn Park.

The three-times capped USA international will be assisted by Derek McWilliams, with Billy McPhee also joining the new Brox coaching team.

Their arrival means caretaker boss Scott McNaughton has departed the club.

Pittman’s second managerial debut with the club will be away to Sauchie on Saturday.

Meanwhile on the park, just two matches featuring

West Lothian clubs were able to beat the weather at the weekend following freezing temperatures.

Fauldhouse United went close to pulling off a shock result at Volunteer Park as they sat two goals to the good against second-placed Armadale Thistle before a Jayden Fairley free-kick reduced the deficit just before the break.

A quick-fire Colin Strickland brace around the hour mark looked to have turned things around.

But the hosts were unable to hold on and clinch all three points as Iain Diack’s side found a late equaliser to take home a share of the spoils.

The slip up allowed Bo’ness Athletic to extend their lead at the top of the East of Scotland Third Division as they saw off Pumpherston at Newtown Park, running out 7-0 winners against Darren Pegg’s side.
