McKay’s loving title push pressure

-

Livingston Women’s winger Beth McKay is aiming to thrive under the ‘good’pressure of a title charge at the club.

The Lionesses are sitting pretty atop the SWF Championship table with an 11-point advantage over Renfrew. They made it 14 wins from 16 games this term on Sunday with a 3-1 away triumph over Hutchison Vale.

Natasha Frew, Ashley Elizabeth and Jess Murphy ensured the short trip back home was a happy one.

Speaking to the Courier, McKay said she’s already loving life at Livi having netted twice on her debut last week at Rossvale.

She said:“I had been at Partick Thistle for a few months but decided to leave. I wasn’t enjoying the travelling and it was a bit too much.

“I wanted to try and enjoy my football more. I had trained with Livi when there was a wee break last year and I got in touch with the club.

“I knew I’d be looked after and dropped them a message to ask if I could join – thankfully they said yes.

“The attraction of Livingston speaks for itself. You get to train and play in first class facilities at the stadium and you really feel like part of the whole Livingston FC family.”

She added:“It really feels like a club heading in the right direction. There’s more than enough here to suggest we can be playing at a higher level and obviously the aim is to be doing that next season.

“There’s good pressure joining the club just now and the position that we’re in. It’s not a situation I’ve felt too often in my career before.

“I won the league with Falkirk a few years ago but other than that I’ve been involved with teams who are kind of mid-table or not really expected to compete for major trophies so it’s a nice feeling to be part of this environment.”

Livi boss Paul Jaconelli lauded his side’s battling spirit as they ground out the win in trying conditions and said they’ll need to show that again this week with a trip to Inverness.

He said:“They really dug deep and showed their fighting quality to get the win against a very good side.

“The conditions were tricky but they rolled their sleeves up and gave everything. I was delighted.

“They’re going to have to replicate that against Inverness but we can go there with real confidence and belief we can get the win.”
