A Livingston teenager has received a maiden call-up to the Scotland senior national men’s cricket team.

All-rounder Jack Jarvis has been named in the squad for the first time and will be part of the side’s tour to Nepal which gets underway in a fortnight.

The 19-year-old, who started his career at Livingston and now plays for Grange, will be part of the squad for the Scots’ final Cricket World Cup League

Two matches for the 20192023 cycle.

They currently sit atop the table and have booked their place at the World Cup qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe which takes place in June and July.

Head coach Shane Burger heaped praise on the teenage ace, who represented his country at the 2022 Under-19 World Cup in the West Indies where he took on the host nation alongside cricketing giants Australia and Sri Lanka.

He said: “Jack is developing really nicely as a cricketer and he is probably the most improved Scottish male player in the last 12 months.

“He has really matured as a player and he is going to develop into a really good all-rounder.

“I think taking him on a trip like this will be a wonderful experience for him and will allow him to develop his skills, develop relationships with those around him and build from there.”

Scotland will play both Nepal and Namibia twice in One Day Internationals during their trip with the first game taking place on

February 15.

Jack’s talent was on show from a young age, with proud Livingston CC Head of Junior section David Vettese adding: “Jack is a Livi boy through and through and played a major role at a young age in the team’s last promotion to the Firsts Division.

“This was often alongside his late father Neil who must take great credit, along with his mother Karen, for Jack’s development as a cricketer and young man.

“He continues to have close associations to the current Livingston junior section having been a guest coach on special occasions as well as often asking about their achievements and victories in various cups and leagues.

“As a club, we look forward to seeing Jack make his Scotland debut and have no doubt he will be a huge success for many years to come.”
