Alan Sneddon was the Linlithgow Rose derby day matchwinner as his precise header knocked rivals Bo’ness United out of the East of Scotland Qualifying Cup.

A bumper crowd took in the clash at Prestonfield in the first competitive derby fixture between the fierce rivals in three years.

And it was the home fans who would leave with smiles on their faces after Sneddon wonderfully diverted a Mark Stowe cross into the far corner to seal a 2-1 victory in the third round clash.

Alassan Jones opened the scoring for the Lowland League visitors nut Sneddon levelled things just after the break from the spot before sealing the victory with his second of the afternoon.

The Rose then backed that up with a 3-2 League Cup win over Newtongrange Star on Tuesday night, with goals from Dale Baxter, Connor McMullan and Conor McKenzie getting the job done.

Elsewhere in League Cup First Round action, Blackburn United picked up a convincing 6-0 victory over Livingston United in the only derby fixture.

Laurie Devine netted the only goal of the first-half – the first of three for the striker – before the Premier Division hosts ran away with things after the interval with five goals in a 19-minute spell.

A Scott Richards strike was sandwiched in between Devine’s second and third goals, before Jerry Otonti netted against his former club with Craig Baillie rounding off the scoring.

Broxburn Athletic squeezed past Preston Athletic 2-1 thanks to first-half goals from Darren Downie and Gary Brass.

Meanwhile, West Calder United joined them in the second round following an incredible 9-8 penalty shoot-out win over Luncarty after the two sides drew 1-1 over the 90 minutes.

Whitburn are also through thanks to a commanding 4-1 away victory over fellow Second Division outfit Easthouses Lily.

Bathgate Thistle and Harthill Royal both gave brilliant accounts of themselves in 2-1 home losses to higher league opponents, with Leith Athletic getting the win at Creamery Park and the Royal falling to Tynecastle.

United lost out 4-1 at home to Peebles Rovers, while Darren Pegg’s Pumphy side were beaten 3-0 by visiting Premier Division outfit Hill of Beath Hawthorn.

Stoneyburn were no match for Burntisland Shipyard with the home side easing to a 5-0 win.
