Jaconelli content as Livi settle for a point

-

Livingston Women’s boss Paul Jaconelli admitted he was pleased to pick up a point on the road against Renfrew as the top two SWF Championship sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Beth McKay opened the scoring for the Lionesses as she bagged her fourth goal of the season by racing onto Raewyn Murphy’s pass before slotting the ball home.

In a game of few chances the hosts levelled things up on 70 minutes as Sinead Macleod pounced at the back post with the visitors spurning a couple of great opportunities in the closing stages to pick up the three points.

Speaking to the Courier, Jaconelli admitted he had no complaints with the result, saying:“It was a very scrappy game from both teams and we just couldn’t really get the ball down and play with any rhythm for any sort of extended period.

“The one time we managed to do it, we got our goal but neither team was able to really take any control.

“I think you could argue that a draw

was a fair result but we had a couple of very good chances towards the end and I don’t think it would have been a particularly false representation of the game if one of those had went in and we’d got the win.

“But overall, it’s a draw away from home against the team that are sitting second in the league. It was always going to be a very challenging game so we’re fairly pleased.”

The Lionesses saw their Tuesday night clash at home to Dryburgh Athletic cancelled due to the freezing temperatures with attention now turning to a tricky away day against Ayr United.

Brogan Anderson is back from her suspension but Jaconelli is under no illusions as to the difficulty of the task at hand.

He commented:“Ayr’s going to be a very tough game. They work their absolute socks off for the whole 90 minutes and have a very good home record.

“But we go into the game knowing that we have the ability and confidence to go there and hurt them. It’s going to be a tough test for the girls but we’ve got a full squad too which is a huge bonus for us.”
