Fury over phone mast plans

-

Plans for a 16m high phone mast in Armadale have been met with resistance from locals.

Reading-based Cignal Infrastructure UK Limited has applied for permission to erect the telecommunications monopole at BirkenshawWay.

But people living nearby are objecting to the plans, saying it would be an“eyesore to the community”, is too close to houses and questioned the safety of the masts.

One said:“With the height and length of the cabinets and pole I believe this would be huge loss of green land in our community. This would reduce the use for wildlife but also for young children able to play safely around this area.

“I also believe the height of this pole is a detrimental to the area as it is at a significant height and this would not fit in with the natural surroundings and make an eyesore to the community, which in turn would damage the mental health of people who would like family/friends to visit their home.

“As yet it is unproven that this technology is safe. Other countries are with holding installation until there is further scientific evidence. Although recently there have been reports sited by the media saying that there is no evidence that 5G/ telecommunication is harmful, this is not quite the whole picture and we know that there are many scientists who are very concerned at the use of 5G/telecommunication without further research being carried out.”

Another said:“I cannot understand how this application was even considered to be sited in the middle of a housing estate and so close proximity to all the houses. I would have full view of a monstrosity.”
