Burnieon theedgeof promotion

-

Whitburn are closing in on a second straight promotion thanks to their 3-0 home win over Hawick Royal Albert.

Goals from Andy Thomson, Cameron Stokes and Harrison Edwards ensured a comfortable victory at Central Park for Darren Wilson’s men.

That victory puts them 12 points clear of fourth-placed Dalkeith Thistle as the Burnie eye up promotion to the East of Scotland First Division.

They were unable to make it double delight this week, though, as they were edged out of the King Cup at the third round stage following a 2-0 home loss on Tuesday night to Lochgelly Albert.

Elsewhere, Mark Wilkins was in fine form as he netted four times for West Calder United during their 5-1 Third Division derby victory over Darren Pegg’s Pumpherston side.

That was one of three derbies in the division, with Livingston United getting a long-awaited win thanks to a 1-0 triumph over basement boys Harthill Royal at Station Park.

Liam Hughes bagged the game’s only goal as United picked up their first win since December, which also came at home against the Royal.

Fauldhouse United and Bathgate Thistle couldn’t be separated as they played out a 1-1 draw at Park View.

Armadale Thistle strengthened their grip on second place in the division thanks to a 4-2 home win over third- placed Edinburgh College with Colin Strickland and Ruari MacLennan helping themselves to a brace.

The win opened up the gap between the sides to 12 points with just 21 left to play for as the Dale look set to join leaders Bo’ness Athletic in next season’s Second Division.

Athletic sealed their own promotion on Friday night with an emphatic 13-0 home win over struggling Stoneyburn.

In the Premier Division, Broxburn Athletic picked up a brilliant 1-0 home win over fourth-placed Jeanfield Swifts which should put an end to any thoughts of them getting dragged back into a relegation battle in the closing stages of the season.

Rocco Hickey-Fugaccia bagged the only goal of the game with a fine angled drive just five minutes into the second-half.

The youngster, currently on loan from SPFL Premiership neighbours Livingston, netted his first goal for the club and ensured that The

Brox sit 10 points off the bottom three – albeit having played more games than all of the sides below them in the table.
