Challeges no barrier for walker
Cameron is marching on
With autism, ADHD and learning difficulties, Cameron Tweedie has faced challenges all his life.
But when a loved one suffered from a stroke last year, Cameron decided he wanted to push himself further to help people who are living with the devastating condition.
And so Cameron (22), from Whitburn, will be joined by mum Catherine in taking part in the 12K Loch Leven Walkathon to raise funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.
Catherine said they were both inspired to take part in the event to raise vital funds for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland after Catherine’s cousin had a stroke last year.
Now the duo are keeping their fingers crossed for good weather on the day and hoping their fundraising efforts make a difference for those recovering from stroke.
Catherine will be Cameron’s walk companion on the day. The 22-year-old has autism and ADHD and has learning difficulties.
By the time the Loch Leven event comes around on May 21, however, Cameron will already have taken part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk along with friends from a disability group.
His mum explained the reason for choosing to participate in the Loch Leven Walkathon.
She said: “My cousin Stuart Blair is the same age as me and had a stroke last year. It’s completely changed his life, and he’ll also be at Loch Leven. My own mum and my sister have also had strokes, so I know first hand the effect it can have.
“Cameron is very keen to do what he can to raise awareness, so he suggested to me that we do the Loch Leven event. A few friends have also signed up, so hopefully there will be a gang of us on the day doing our bit for Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.”
The Loch Leven Walkathon is a 7k, 12k or 13-mile walk around the Loch Leven Heritage Trail in Fife.
Cameron and Catherine will take on the 12k walk challenge with the young man setting himself a target of raising at least £100 for CHSS.
