Roads were closed by fallen trees at the weekend as the district was battered by high winds.

Trees were pulled down and roads were blocked for hours as the Horsham district was battered by strong winds.

The windy weather caused traffic chaos from Saturday through to Monday as dozens of trees were uprooted, damaging power lines and blocking roads and railway lines.

West Sussex County Council’s Highways team was called to 62 weather-related incidents across the county over the weekend, with more than a third affecting roads in the Horsham district.

A large tree was blown down across Hammerpond Road near Horsham on Sunday, March 10. Police closed the road, causing delays in the area until it was removed just after 6.30pm.

Earlier that day police closed part of the A264 between Fulfords Hill and Newbridge Nurseries after a tree took out power lines.

Fallen trees also caused delays along Robin Hood Lane near Warnham, Forest Road near Colgate, and Annington Road near Steyning.

Delays were reported on the railway lines into Monday after a felled tree blocked the tracks near Horsham.
