Horsham overcome rain, sunshine and gusting wind

Horsham Golf’s match against Goodwood this week had everything, rain, brilliant sunshine and wind with gusts up to 64mph.

Despite the weather, Horsham came away with a victory, winning by four matches to two.

Match captain Shaun Moloney and John Neale won 5&3 and Will Pitt and John Curran came home 3&2.

Goodwood were slightly depleted, and Trevor White played a singles match against a Goodwood opponent and halved that match. Nairon Khan and Chris Frogley also halved their match and Derek Shadbolt and Denis Wright won 3&1. The final pairing of Murray Chisholm and Brian Anderson lost 4&2.

The Tuesday and Wednesday seniors both played a qualifying Stableford and eclectic competitio­n.

The Tuesday winner was Martin Jesty with an excellent 42 points, well clear of second placed Nigel Croy on 37 points. Third place went to Phil Knowles with 35 points beating Christophe­r Stapley on countback.

After heavy rain on Tuesday night the Wednesday group were faced with more difficult conditions and that was reflected in the scores.

Trevor White won with 38 points just edging out Murray Chisholm on 37.

A chasing pack of five players were some way behind on 33 points and third place went to Denis Wright taking the place on countback with 19 points on the back nine.

Horsham ladies played a Stableford on Tuesday and the winner with 32 points was Sharon Johnston. Second place went to Chrissy Isaacs, with 28 and Carole Sharp was third on 26 just edging out Jane White on countback.
