Horsham knocked out of the Cyril Blake Cup

Horsham were knocked out of the Cyril Blake Cup losing by 1.5 matches to 2.5 against a strong Haywards Heath team.

Nairon Khan and Peter Goodwin lost 2&1, while Mark Smith and Andy Wachnianin had a convincing 5&4 win.

Captain Shaun Moloney and Tad Paluchowsk­i halved their match and Steve Mead and John Lines went down 7&6.

As a result, Horsham will now go into the Cyril Blake Plate competitio­n.

In a friendly match against Gatton Manor on Thursday Horsham were convincing five matches to one winners in the first fixture between the two clubs. Captain Shaun Moloney claimed that only he and his playing partner Kevin Walker had the good grace to avoid inflicting a whitewash by losing 2 & 1.

Derek Shadbolt and Derek Jones had an excellent 6&4 win while the pairings of Andy Wachnianin and John Curran and Trevor Anthony and John Hawkins both won 3&2. Nairon Khan and Duncan Masters won 2&1 and Denis Wright and Rod Northway won 1 up with the match going to the last put on the final green. The Tuesday Seniors played a Stableford and the winner was Ian Davenport with 41 points. A chasing pack of three payers all came in with 40 points with Jenny Elliott taking second place on countback ahead of Will Pitt and Keith Martin in third and fourth.

It was a similar story for Wednesday Seniors Medal competitio­n with the first three players all coming in with a net 66.

Graham Towns was the overall winner, followed by Chris Bedford and Nigel Hills.

Horsham’s ladies played a Stableford and the winner with 35 points and a handicap cut of 0.3 was Liz MacGregor, in second place with 32 points was Karen Thorpe just edging out Angela Kammer on count back.
