Memorial six-a-side raises £3k for charity

The Ivan Mitchell Memorial Trophy was contested at Steyning Town at the start on the month.

The annual event is in memory of friend and colleague Ivan Mitchell who sadly passed away in July 2007 at the age of 32.

The 16 team six-a-side tournament was won by Hussars FC who beat Not A Kalou 1-0 in the final.

Both Vic and Ivan passed away at St Barnabas Hospice and the even raised £3,258. It was made up of monies raised on the day and £1,500 donated by Santander as part of their match donation scheme.

Organiser Matt Bailey said: “It was an excellent day all round and after the game we had a raffle which consisted of around 40 prizes generously donated by businesses in and around Sussex.

“I would also like to give a huge thanks to Steyning Town for all their help on the day and for giving us the facilities free of charge. Special thanks to Karen Andrews, Lawrence Rogers and Steph Gretton for their help on the day.

“We have already pencilled the date in the diary for next year as it was such a success.”
