Horsham through... Smith haunts Ifield
Horsham advanced to round three of the Sunday T20 Cup with a comprehensive tenwicket victory at Felbridge & Sunnyside.
The Lions reduced the hosts to 106-9 off their 20 overs. Skipper Jack Williams (39) was the only batsman to hit double figures as James Brehaut (3-6) and youngster Mali Lewis (4-19) ripped through Felbridge.
Horsham knocked off the required total without loss as they hit 109 in 13.3 overs. Captain Michael Thornely (58*) and young Lion Akshay Ramani (42) produced great knocks to propel Horsham to an easy win.
Thornely said: “It was really good seeing some of the young lads putting in some good performances and getting us through to the next round. It certainly was a positive to get the win under our belt.
Dan Smith came back to haunt his former side with a century as Slinfold dumped out two division-higher opposition Ifield in the T20 Cup.
The batsman smashed 114 in the first round clash to power Slinfold, who had just half their first team playing, to a five-wicket victory.
Having won the toss, Slinfold stuck Division 2 outfit Ifield into bat and they posted 222-5 in their 20 overs with Luke Morris (52) and Jack Groves (57*) leading the scores.
Steve Haines (46) and Smith then set the foundation in the chase before they came home with 223-5 with two balls to spare
Captain Haines said: “Ifield managed to score 222 in their 20 overs and at one stage looked to be heading towards 250-plus.
“We managed to knock off the runs with a couple of balls to spare thanks largely to a superb knock from former Ifield player Dan Smith with 120 from 55 balls.”
They will now host Roffey in the next round.
