Hickstead is to showjumping what Wembley is to football or Wimbledon is to tennis – and there’s no better place to spend a summer’s day. The Al Shira’aa Hickstead Derby Meeting (20-23 June), a quintessentially British event featuring the world’s best, is one of the most popular shows in the equestrian calendar with around 40,000 spectators expected to flock to the showground.

The West Sussex County Times and Hickstead have teamed up to offer four lucky readers the chance to win one of 4 pairs of Members’ Enclosure tickets for Friday 21st June. It’s a jam-packed day in the Longines International Arena; the feature class of the day is the Bunn Leisure Derby Trial, in which horses and riders must qualify for Sunday’ s Al Shira’aa Derby. There’s also the popular Bunn Leisure Derby Two Phase, which tests both power and speed, while showing highlights include the I.C.E. Horseboxes Supreme Cob Championship and the Alltech Small Show Hunter Championship.

Hickstead is a Mecca for any horse lover – but you can also explore some of the local delicacies in Hickstead’s Food and Drink Market, check out the myriad of stands selling delicious street food, or bring a picnic and find the perfect ringside spot to enjoy the glorious West Sussex countryside.

In addition to the equestrian entertainment, there will also be over 150 stands in the Charles Owen Shopping Village and Eden Crafts Pavilion, where you will find some of the country’s leading brands from countryside fashion to city chic.

The Family Fun Zone features our wonderful children’s entertainer Tomfoolery, who’ll be amusing the crowds with hobby horse jump-offs, a magic show and lots more to delight younger visitors to the show.

With the funfair offering half price rides on the Thursday and Friday, it truly is a family day out with something to please everyone.
