A mum of three has put together a video for Billingshurst Primary School children to share while they are in lockdown.

Abi Smith has three children at the village school and knew they would miss their friends so decided to do something about it.

She said: “The video was a way of getting as many children as possible to wave so they could it watch it back and see their friends.

“The teachers getting involved was an extra bonus as children do miss seeing their teachers, and the lollipop man and the librarian, as much as the teachers miss them.”

The video features children and teachers waving at the camera.

After putting out a request, Abi received more than 190 videos.

“It was incredible, and since it has been posted online it has had over 4,500 views,” she explained. “We had lots of brilliant dancing, jumping, waving and lots of animals included in the clips, which was great.”

And it isn’t just the school children who have enjoyed watching the video.

Abi said: “So many parents have messaged to say how emotional they found watching it and I agree, seeing so many familiar faces was wonderful for the soul.”

“School staff featured in the film include headteacher Helen Wlliamson, librarian Mrs Robson and lollipop man

John Gooderham. Other staff - Miss Jolley, Mrs Hampson and Mrs Mason - are all currently on maternity leave but also took part.

“They all have had to stay safe at home and I know they are really missing the children,” added Abi.

Meanwhile the charity Home Start has been in touch with Abi. “They loved the idea of the video so much and wanted help in putting their own one together.

“It’s lovely that our video is putting smiles on people’s faces and helping others in similar situations.”
