School celebrates as pupils achieve scholarship awards

- Jasmin Martin

An independent day and boarding prep school in Washington has announced it has achieved 15 new scholarships to secondary schools this year.

The talented pupils at Windlesham House School each went through a vigorous interview process to secure their sought-after scholarships at some top senior schools across the UK.

The scholarships, which were awarded to a number of year eight pupils, were also split 50/50 in terms of gender with both boys and girls equally succeeding in their achievements.

Awards have been secured at a number of impressive establishments including Millfield School in Somerset, Canford School in Dorset, Cranleigh and also Caterham School in Surrey, Bryanston School in Dorset, Hurstpierpoint College in West Sussex, Rugby

School in Warwickshire and Wellington School in Berkshire.

Headmaster Richard Foster said: “This is an exceptional achievement for our pupils and for our school and one that shouldn’t go unmentioned, even during these unprecedented times.

“As always, hard work, perseverance and commitment paid off, not to mention some incredible talent and that should be celebrated.

“Competition is particularly fierce for scholarships today and we are proud to have so many talented and committed children in our school. We wish them every success for the future.”

Gifted pupils compete from across many different prep schools across the country and scholarship awards span art and drama, academic, music, sports, computing and innovation as well as the prestigious ‘allrounder’ scholarship.

Like all UK schools,

Windlesham closed its school gates as a result of Government advice surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, but is committed to celebrating and supporting its pupils’ ongoing educational progress via remote and interactive digital learning methods.
