Home 3D printer used to make hospice PPE
A Sussex hospice has welcomed a donation of PEE from a Portsmouth man. Pete Turner used his 3D printer to create personal protective equipment frontline care staff. Due to incredible demand, he set up a crowd sourcing campaign that has since raised over £2,000. Allowing him to begin to deliver some of the first sets of PPE to St Wilfrid’s Hospice, donated completely free of charge. Pete said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be helping so many in so many different environments. Knowing the work St Wilfrid’s do is so important, I’ll keep going until this crisis is over.” Suzy O Callaghan, director of nursing at St Wilfrid’s, said: “During this time of national emergency it is amazing how individuals have gone out of their way to help others. “We are enormously grateful to Pete for these visors have ensured that our community staff have remained safe whilst caring for terminally ill patients in their own homes. “It also means that the hospice is reducing the burden on our normal supply chains to ensure critical Personal Protection Equipment can be distributed to other frontline staff.” St Wilfrid’s Hospice is continuing to care for over 300 patients both at the Hospice on Walton Lane, Bosham and in peoples’ own homes.
