Nothing to gain from proposal
I am writing to you to express my complete and utter amazement that HDC have even considered the destruction of a green space within Horsham for the development of over 1,000 homes!
I understand the recent consultation has raised over 400 complaints against this proposal. Not only is this notion completely unacceptable to the people who live in Horsham town, but ultimately this proposal will annexe the Warnham Nature Reserve and will cause a significant risk to the natural world that inhabits the area. For example, I have seen kites, birds of prey, herons, deer and other amazing creatures all in and around this area. These will all be gone!
I am dismayed to hear of this proposal. Last year they even tried to knock down the Drill Hall and relocate it two miles away! I am at odds as to how this local facility could remain local to people who live in town to actually be expected to travel two miles to a housing estate to enjoy a facility they already have?
All of this smacks of strong lobbyists including the building industry consistently telling HDC they need to build houses. Agreed, we do need houses, but surely Horsham as a district has done more than enough to adapt to the planning of new homes as implemented by central government. We have new housing estates all over the district including Broadbridge Heath, Southwater, High Wood, Kilnwood Vale, and now the North Horsham redevelopment which has just started infrastructure works. Enough is enough, especially as these developers are now trying to shoe horn properties in areas that are not acceptable.
It’s also interesting that they want to build flats not houses. This is because I assume they can maximise the profit against minimal investment.
Please can HDC re think their strategy as I cannot see the advantage of destroying an existing green space for which in my opinion is for financial gain only. Especially as the outcome of this development will only have a detrimental effect on the existing residence of Horsham – they will have everything to lose and nothing to gain!
