School completes maintenance work as pupils welcomed back
A school in Coldwaltham has made improvements to its building and learning facilities and completed the work ahead of the return of pupils following the lockdown.
St James’ School took advantage of the period of quiet to carry out the maintenance work, which was funded by a grant from the South Downs National Park, throughout April and May.
Although the school remained open for children of key workers at both St James’ and Amberley Schools, children in reception, yearone and year-six were allowed to return from Monday, June 1 following the new Government guidelines.
Staff have worked tirelessly to keep the school clean and the children have quickly adapted to the new routines, working in their class bubbles.
The classroom for the youngest children has been freshly decorated and their outside learning area has been freshly covered with thick astroturf.
The playground has been transformed with freshly painted line markings and games which have been designed by the children.
Many of the children have also benefitted from parking their scooters and cycles safely in the newly installed storage unit.
St James’ School is hoping to see more children return to school before the end of the summer term, but, in the meantime the children continue to have remote learning lessons at home.
