Hornets thank fans after passing charity total

-

Horsham FC bosses have thanked fans and other backers who helped them berat a fundraising total in aid of a mental health charity.

The Hornets set out to net £1,400 for West Sussex Mind – and have so far raised £50 more than the target.

They did it by asking fans to donate the cost of a pint they might otherwise have bought during the period when the Euro 2020 finals were due to be on.

At the same Horsham’s Twitter account ran a fantasy tournament allowing people to vote on the outcome of matches.

And they’re pleased to announce England are the new Euro champions after beating France 1-0 in the final.

A Horsham FC statement said: “We are thrilled to announce that our charity fundraiser, #DonateAPint in aid of West Sussex Mind, has reached its target of £1,400!

“A huge thank you goes out to all those who so generously donated the cost of what they might usually have spent on drinks during what should have been the Euro 2020 finals.

“Our media team have been working their socks off to run a ‘virtual championships’ as a bit of fun over the last month and there was plenty of excitement in HFC Towers when the Three Lions saw off the Dutch 4-1 in Wednesday’s semi-finals.”

Horsham launched the fundraise for Mind in June, saying they felt it was important to do something for the community at a time when there was much focus on people’s mental health during the lockdown.
