Is Anna’s mask a winner?
Billingshurst designer Anna Jarvis has been shortlisted from more than 150 entrants to win a face mask design competition.
The competition, run by the print firm Solopress, was launched to support the creative community who have suffered during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The #MyMaskMyWay competition is asking the public to choose 12 out of the 30 shortlisted designs, and each winner will receive £200. Winning designs will also be sold on the print firm’s site and will receive ten per cent of commission from their face mask sales
Solopress managing director Simon Cooper said: “Anna has utilised her unique talents to add a dose of joy and creativity to the otherwise dismal notion of face masks.
“They’ve become an unprecedented 2020 trend, along with quiz nights, baking and Joe Wicks’ living room workout.
“As creative communities around the globe suffer, Solopress hope for this competition to bring a small amount of relief and joy for designers everywhere.”
Anna is a graphic designer and an illustrator who helps businesses communicate more effectively with their target markets. Her illustration work is diverse, including children’s picture books and safety equipment information drawings.
She said: “My concept for this mask was simple. It’s hard to understand people’s thoughts and emotions when so much facial expression is hidden. I’ve found that quite intimidating, so I chose to communicate a message of friendliness from behind my mask.
“I looped the word ‘love’ together to illustrate a loose crocheted effect, chose the background colour that I associate with health workers to emphasise care and added a love heart to replace my missing mouth.”
The public vote is open now until July 19 – https:// www.solopress.com/ mymaskmyway
