There’s still time to join St Catherine’s Hospice Midnight Walk this weekend
More than 150 people have already signed up to support St Catherine’s Hospice by taking part in their own Midnight Walk this Christmas.
And there’s still time for more people to join them.
It takes place on Saturday December 12 2020 from 4pm and St Catherine’s are calling on people to get together with up to six of their friends and family and walk their own 2, 7, 13 or 20 mile Midnight Walk.
Although West Sussex is still under restrictions, outdoor exercise is still being encouraged while observing social distancing,
The local hospice will send entrants everything they need to take part and fundraise safely.
On the night St Catherine’s staff will set people off walking in style, with a special Facebook
Live pre-walk celebration including entertainment and a virtual warm up.
A team of colleagues from DMH Stallard LLP and their families have signed up for the Midnight Walk as part of an ambitious virtual challenge they’re taking on, to pull Santa’s sleigh the equivalent distance from the North Pole to St Catherine’s and back again all before Christmas Eve - That’s an incredible 8,652 km.
Lawrence Morley, associate at DMH Stallard LLP said: “Our intrepid team have been busy running, walking, cycling and anything in between to collectively cover our target distance.
“We need to make sure that the money we raise gets from the North Pole to St Catherine’s before Christmas and that we get Santa’s sleigh back to the North Pole in time for the big day.
“So far, our travels have beengoing really well andwe have 46 registered athletes, collectively averaging over 1,000km a week.
“Under normal circumstances we would be running, walking and cycling together, but social distancing means we’re going solo to raise money.
“This challenge has been a great way to keep us all stay connected.
“The Midnight Walk is a fantastic chance for us to do a final push towards our mileage with our own families, and we’re all looking forward to walking our own route, knowing other colleagues are doing the same thing.
“We’re really pleased to support St Catherine’s at such a critical time.”
A hospice spokesman said: “After the year we’ve all had, we all deserve something to look forward to – St Catherine’s Midnight Walk will be an unmissable, magical evening.
“And every step you take will be special because you’ll be remembering the people you love and supporting your local hospice.
“It’s only thanks to people like you supporting the hospice that the local charity can continue to provide essential end of life care and support.”
Coronavirus has hit St Catherine’s hard and this year there’s a predicted drop in income of around £1.5 million.
