School donates hundreds of Christmas gifts to children

- Jasmin Martin

A Horsham school has created a campaign in the hopes of ‘recapturing the magic of Christmas’ and bringing a little more joy to 800 children in the community.

The Millais Christmas Wish campaign has been a success during the past three weeks, with staff and students so far donating more than 700 gifts to give to local families in need of support this year.

The Millais School community has come together for the campaign with the logistical help of the Salvation Army and Horsham Matters.

“The generosity of students and staff donating so many Christmas gifts has been truly heartwarming, and we thank all those that have contributed,” said the Millais School admin team.

“Whilst we cannot gather physically, the school community has rallied together to make this fantastic achievement possible by a collective act of kindness.

“An unexpected Christmas gift will no doubt be wellreceived but will also help us to deliver an important message to local families; to let them know we care and hope to bring a little joy to them whilst they are facing challenging times.”

Staff and students have collected gifts – according to their own age – such a toys, games, creative crafts, soft toys, books, stationary, gift vouchers, toiletries, puzzles, sweet treats and more.

The final day for donations was Thursday, December 3, to allow time for all the gifts to be quarantined and appropriately organised before being distributed within the community by the Salvation Army and Horsham Matters.
