Hunt is on Sussex’s England pathway
Sussex see new seamer Sean Hunt as the perfect fit for their aim of improving young cricketers and producing potential England players.
The tall 19-year-old has been lured to Hove from Surrey, where he has impressed at academy and second XI level.
He was Surrey’s academy player of the year in 2019, when he made his second team debut for Surrey in 2019.
Last summer, he caught the eye with eight wickets for a Young Lions South team against Young Lions North.
Hunt said: “I am really looking forward to starting my journey playing cricket for Sussex. When the offer came to play for a such prestigious county, I had no hesitation accepting such a fantastic opportunity.
“I am spending the winter in Australia with the Darren Lehmann Cricket Academy in Adelaide, where I am focused on improving my cricketing skills in preparation for the upcoming season. I will be joining the squad in March or April and I can’t wait.”
Sussex Cricket’s men’s redball and one-day head coach Ian Salisbury said: “Sean has huge potential and fits into our strategy of developing young cricketers of the right talent and attitude to bring sustained success to Sussex and produce England cricketers.”
Sussex T20 head coach James Kirtley added: “Sean is someone we have been watching for a couple of years. He has been one of the most successful bowlers at Academy level in the south east and has bowled a significant number of overs. outstanding potential.
“He has taken himself to Australia to improve his game and things seem to be going really well.”
